A Self Portrait

September 5, 2010

I normally don’t like having my picture taken, however, I just am feeling so good lately!!

I’ve come to a place where I’m so happy and thankful of where I am in my life!  I’m grateful for the wonderful family I have, the amazing friends that are by my side, the creativity and passion I have for photography, for yoga which has carried me and strengthened my muscles and my very core and, lastly, my body – which takes all the hard knocks I give it and keeps wanting more challenges.

This photo was taken recently when I went to the Bahamas….I set my camera up on a small tripod and a 10 second remote timer and this shot took about 30 tries before I finally got one that was perfect!

A Dream Come True….

August 28, 2010

It’s been a dream of mine, for a VERY long time, to swim with a Manta Ray.  Ever since I was a kid, I loved watching Jacques Cousteau dive and film in exotic locations.  His respect and knowledge about ocean creatures transfixed me and he quickly became an inspiration to me.

Being raised by the ocean, it has special meaning to me and while I love living in Colorado, I must schedule a yearly retreat to the ocean.

This year, I’m in the Bahamas, one of my favorite places.  We rented a boat and were traveling back to the dock when we spotted this beautiful Manta Ray.  We quickly got our snorkel gear on and popped in the water.  This was an amazing moment…I never expected to see a Manta Ray here and certainly not swim with one!

Haiku #6

Haiku #6

is it summer yet?

What is a Haiku?  According to the Web, it’s a 3 lined verse with only 17 syllables or less.  The first line often has 5 syllables, the second line 7 syllables and the third line 5 syllables.  The verse cannot be composed of more than 17 syllables, cannot have more than 3 lines and cannot rhyme.

Here is my feeble attempt….C’mon, let’s play!  Respond with a Haiku!

I can feel the breeze

Salty warmth and ocean waves

I’m in paradise

Swimming with Dolphins

February 21, 2010

One of the most touching and awe inspiring things that I have ever done is swim with wild dolphins.  People that are close to me know that I have a “thing” for dolphins.  My family swears that I have gills hidden somewhere on my body.  I was nicknamed “Paige-eee the Porpoise” when I was a kid.  One of my lifelong dreams is to be in the water with wild animals and swim with them – no matter what they are (except I don’t care for jellyfish so much).  So, when the opportunity came up to possibly swim with the dolphins, I was there!  I can’t explain the experience.  They are playful, curious and oh so beautiful.  They come just close enough to touch, but they never do.  You can hear their wild and wonderful squeals and squeaks underwater.  This is something I hope I can do again and again, year after year.  Enjoy!

Sand, Sea and Sky

February 20, 2010

When I was on my beach sabbatical, I took my camera everywhere, especially in the water!!!   During this exploration of waves, I was trying to get a photo of a wave as it formed but before crashing onto the beach.  I can’t tell you how hard underwater photography is!  Needless to say, this isn’t the shot, but I love it nonetheless!!

Think Tropical

February 19, 2010

It’s snowing like crazy right now.  Here is a shot that I took when I was on a 3 week sabbatical.  Last year, I disappeared for 3 weeks with a point and shoot camera and underwater housing, a laptop and an internet connection.  No phone, no car, no schedule.  Just a rusty bike, bathing suit, camera and a desire to see differently.   It was a life changing 3 weeks!  So, back to – it’s snowing like crazy right now and all I can think about is the beach.  Enjoy this photo – can you see the heart?  More photos from the beach sabbatical soon!  Thanks for looking!
